Karen Bernard invited me to sit on the selection committee for the Performance Mix, 27th Season and this April all of the selected artists will invade NYC's The Flea Theater in a weeklong festival meant to push the boundaries and contours of contemporary performance. As a part of the festival, I will be a featured panelist discussing the ups and downs of touring and producing new work at The Breakfast Mix on April 11, (Thursday 10:30 AM – 12:30 PM) at The Flea Theater.
Join us for breakfast and “Out of Town Artists’ Forum and Performance Away: Beyond The Site of Production” – A panel discussion facilitated by Robert Tyree, Mix artist and writer from Portland, Oregon, with guest artist Jaamil Kosoko, Producing Associate – Humanities and Engagement at New York Live and a panel of Mix national and international artists. The panel will discuss: How does performance circulate? What moves work beyond its site of production—and to what end? Can artists and organizations outside major markets thrive in minor market conditions—perhaps through regional performance circuits—to counter the sometimes meager incentives of one city, one weekend runs? What good does it do to “leave home”? Following the Panel, we will enjoy a performance of an excerpt from Mayday’s Goodbye. Breakfast Mix is hosted by the Cultural Government of Quebec in New York.
